I have an NEC nd 2100ad dvd/ cd burner that used to work fine but now it won't recognize cd's only dvd's. Why?

Answer:
If it recognizes dvds, there is nothing wrong with the hardware, it's the software or the drivers. Reinstall. Make sure you dont haveany of those crummy free codec pacs from the internet. It might also be that the cd's do not have sufficient relectivity (they were burned on crummy recorders)
My moms moms old dvd drive used to do this i updated the drivers and cleaned the lense in it we did about everything to it and came with just to get a new one i recommend to get a dvd burner they are prety cheap now i got one for $60 and its a lightscribe
