Any chance I can shock a dropped and now broken external HDD back to life?

Answers:
I dropped my External drive (Seagate 320gig) and it stopped working.

So I removed it from the case and fitted it as a secondary drive inside my PC. It worked fine and is still working fine 9 months later.

Dropping it had just smashed the usb port in the external case, not damaged the drive.

Try it - you can always source another caddy if this is the same for you.
Probably not !

Is there any physical damage to it ?

Does it startup at all ?
Been there. My best advice if you can't access that drive anymore is to try a data recovery software like File Scavenger. It's free to try and you will be able to see if you can recover the files before you buy.
Physically damaged?

Not likely..."Damn it Jim, I'm only a Doctor.."

If it was simply dropped, it may be able to take it somewhere and have it mirrored, if it dropped and was damaged, you MIGHT be able to do that, but it limits the possibility.
I'm afraid not. Once they are dead they are dead. Even if there was it would still be more efficient to buy a new one.
Best & cheapest solution is to get a new drive!
sounds like you pulled the internal cable loose open it (the case ) and replug the cable
if you've damaged the casing and not the drive its ok probably as said before..

hopefully it wasn't dropped while on? otherwises you may have scratched the drive surface...

just take it out of the housing.. and change the jumpers to make it a slave drive.. add it to ya pc

if ya using a laptop ya need a convertor kit , which has a 5volt adaptor with it as well. and just plug it into the usb on the laptop.

either way see if the data is still on the drive. back it up then run a chkdsk on it and do a surface scan, to see if there are any bad blocks.
