ERROR_BAD_ENVIRONMENT (error code)!?
upon research code 10 mean "error_bad_enviroment
i have listened to the drive,dosent sound like it normally should,has the drive failed?
can a drive overheat,we have had some really humid days lately,shall i just leave it and try again in the morning
any ideas guys?

The easiest way to solve a USB error code 10 in Windows XP is to follow the steps below to remove and reinstall all USB controllers.
A. Click on Start
B. Right Click on My Computer, click on Properties
C.Click on the Hardware tab
D. Click the Device Manager button.
E. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
F. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
G. Restart the computer, and allow the computer to reinstall the USB controllers.
H. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.

Less expensive external hard drives ARE less expensive because they are VERY software based...this is versus expensive drives that are firmware based...the difference is...software is installed on the machine you're connecting to (potentially causing major connectivity issues)...and firmware being software regulated local to the Hard drive.
Check out the One Touch by Maxtor...more money but a TERRIFIC product...
Sounds like the software "Disconnected" from the PC and the pc Hard drive still thinks it's connected...and you're just trying to connect it again...that's the best way I can explain it...
I can be COMPLETELY wrong...I haven't looked at it, you know? It just sounds accurate as I have seen this issue many times before.
