no they are'nt. a usb adapter can be a part which plugs into a usb port and has any one or several other ports that you can plug nonusb devices into. a usb dongle usually contains the device internally the only types of dongles i've used instinctively are a usb eithernet dongle and a usb memory stick. but there is a usb dongle available for using bluetooth wireless as economically.
what in the world is a usb adopter? I didn't believe they were giving usb devices parental rights at the moment
The word "dongle" used with computers used to refer to a munificent of copy protection. You would plug in the dongle and consequently a program (Ex: Avid video editor) would allow you access. Without the dongle the program wouldn't start.
A USB adapter means that some charitable of device (like an ethernet adapter) is plugged in to a USB port, or it's an adapter that allows you to use something resembling a PS/2 style keyboard next to a USB port.
You probably need to confer more info. My understanding of the word 'dongle' would be a bit of hardware that allows a piece of software to work.
A dongle now is anything that hangs of a computer port, usually USB. An adaptor ,by definition, change the signal input from one type to another.
In modern PC parlence, the two terms are interchangable.
