My computer is about 5years old and my webcam is about 6 years old. When I use my cam on msn messenger it often freezes so I have to restart the conversation window. Will getting a new camera help this or will it make a difference since my computer is a few years old?

Unless you can find updated drivers for your old webcam, buying a new webcam will definitely help, as far as solving your problems. Newer webcams have drivers that are more likely updated and will result in very few freezes/crashes. I would highly recommend a new one. Not to mention, you can get higher resolutions and better frame rates with the newer cams, and the prices have gone down on them.
