If i format c drive will the d drive go with it?

no unless you low level format the whole drive instead of the partition

But you will probably be formatting the OS as well if you have it in the c drive in which case you might need a low level s/w to actually access the contents of D drive.
No, if you don't go too deep. Don't get into FDisk. FDisk will screw things up for you enough that you will probably lose your D Drive. Just the simple A:\ format c:\sys should get the C Drive and only the C drive. It wont touch the D unless you tell it to...
