Help with my computer sound... or lack there of?

Here's the deal: (
I turned my computer (Windows XP)on today, and for some reason, the settings said that my audio device was not installed, and i needed a mixer device. After about four hours of trying, i was able to get the SigmaTel C-Major program onto my computer from my Operating System disc. The sound began to work, but here's the problem, everytime i restart my computer, the software disappears, and i have to repeat this process to get the sound to work.
Is there like, a special way that i have to install it? The Add Hardware wizard said that it's installed, but whenever i restart it , it says "No Audio Device found. Help!!!

Answer:
install "Realtek AC97 audio driver" and all your problems are gone.
go into computer management and completly remove the sound device and the reistall the driver or go to the manufaturer web site and re download the driver
you need a DRIVER. It's something that needs to be applied to ALL hardware. Go to the add hardware wizard, click the sound device and properties. If you know what you're speaker is called, google that up followed by the word driver and download. The process should be relatively simple, best of luck.
Put the mixer and other apps it needs to run into your startup or see if you can put it into your MSCONFIG
1. click start menu
2.run
3. msconfig

and click the startup and try to add it if not add it to the folder
