How do i ge windows to recognize my SATA hard drive?
Answers:
Assuming it's a new drive, and the BIOS see's it.
RIGHT CLICK, on MY COMPUTER
select MANAGE
Choose "Local Disk Management"
Locate the new SATA drive, probably showing as unallocated space.
Right click it, create a partition and format it, and allocate a letter if required.
You shouldn't need to do anything, things to check:
1. Check the drive is connected properly
2. Check SATA is enabled in your BIOS
3. Check your motherboard drivers are up to date
...and check it's formatted as Stu suggested
There are two possible ways you can connect the SATA HD to the computer. Ones is the motherboard having support for SATA connectors, and the other is using a PCI or PCIe card.
The connector in the motherboard is managed using the BIOS.
The PCI or PCIe card needs drivers to be recognized.
Now, if you are adding a new SATA HD to a running OS with the drivers and software installed on it you will go to the software to configure the new HD. You might need to add the driver if yours is not recognized in the device manager.
For OS installation from scratch (Windows 2000 forward) you need to place the installation CD and as soon as you see the blue screen hit F8 (additional drivers) At some point the installation process will ask you to place a floppy disk in the Drive A with the SATA PCI or PCIe drivers. Make sure you create that floppy before starting the installation or you will never be able to get past this step.
Once recognized you will continue as usual and have the HD available.
I can't describe the BIOS process as I use PCI, but home you can use this in your favor.
Cheers!
