There's a program called Camtasia Studio that captures your screen into an AVI. If you're making instructional videos for computer stuff, you can use this to record a demonstration or lecture. You hook up a microphone and your voice is recorded along with the video. It works really well! You can even edit the video later to add arrows and circles to emphasize certain things on the screen.
(There are other programs that do this. Camtasia is just the only one I've actually used.)
The problem with YouTube is that you can't see the video full-screen. So a lot of things you do on a computer screen will be hard or impossible to see. OTOH, because the resolution on YouTube is so bad, there's no real advantage of a nice videocamera over a cheap webcam.
