Formatting a extra Hard Drive? on Vista Ultimate?
I just got myself a 500gb Maxtor SATA HDD, so I installed Vista Ultimate on it and its working fine and I have transferred all my old files from my original 80gb IDE HDD which im gonna format and use to store movies and music.
However when I try to format the HDD it wont let me it keeps saying "Formatting Failed" Ive tried it on normal mode and on safe mode on vista, I checked online and its not a bug so is there another way of formatting the drive.
Its really annoying because I have two versions of Vista installed ( one on either hard drive) and because my Keyboard is wireless USB and wont work during the boot up I have to wait 25 seconds until the timer countsdown and the newest vista is loaded.
Could the fact that maybe the original hard drive is the master affect the formatting?
Answer:
Yes. What would have worked is setting the boot priority to go to SATA before IDE, and disabling the IDE channels temporarily. Then install Vista Ultimate. Once it's complete, re-enable the IDE channels and make sure boot priority is set to SATA first, then transfer needed files from the 80GB and reformat it.
