IS DDR2 5300 interchangeable with DDR2 800. I understand the computer will work at the slower of the 2 DDR2?

speed.

Answer:
This is true, but there is a third factor: the speed of the computer you are trying to put it in.

In the case of RAM compatibility, it will slow down to the slowest speed of RAM, but when adding in the Computer, all the RAM must meet or exceed the speed that the Computer was designed to work with.

for instance, if your computer is designed to use PC6400 - DDR2 800mhz, then the PC5300 - DDR2 667mhz will not work. If it's the other way around, then they will both work, but run at the speed of the PC5300 RAM.
That's correct, it will work regardless but at the slower rated speed.
the processor will be slowed down also if the FSB changes to much. to answer your question.yes
ddr2 6400 (aka 800) will clock itself down to work with 5300.
YES it will work. The lower speed (but lower latency) will have little effect on Intel processors but considerable effect on AMD processors.
