What are d-link routers and Linksys routers?

What are they used for? Thanks!

Answer:
Routers are devices used to share an internet connection if you have more than one computer and want to share your internet connection between the computers .
The internet company is not concerned with how many computers you have ( generally) and more about your bandwidth i,e. how much water goes down the pipe.
If a person is downloading tons of movies , programs or songs they willl use a lot of internet bandwidth .
If you are browsing on the internet not much volume of internet bandwidth is used.

The two major brands of routers are Linksys and D-Link
easily 70 % of all the rotuers sold are those two brands.
Other brands are SMC, gigafast , trendnet , usrobotics and more.

Linksys is considered a premium brand, D-link is a retail brand with a lot of big box store coverage.
All router brands are generally ok and not that much different.
The routers generally have 1 line in ( from the modem) and four out to potential computers.
Routers now come in two basic tyoes
- straight ethernet wire connections
- wireless routers which both have 4 wired ports and a wirelesst transmitter
the signal goes 300 feet inside or 1000 feet outside. Known as wi fi.
The receiving computer needs a wireless adapter ( a radio in essence). New laptops have them built in. Othersc can buy a device to be added
( wireless network adapter)

hope this is not overkill but am just trying to be thorough

also routers have a security feature so that it is a good idea to have a router installed if you have a broadband internet connection even if you have only one computer connected.
wireles routers for the internet. they maje some of the best i have used
Routers are used to connect your many computers to one cable modem. That way all of your computers can share one broadband connection.

These are different manufactuers of routers. Most routers for the home provide a harware level firewall and ability to hook up more than one computer to the internet.
d-link and linksys are brand names.

A router is basically a splitter for an internet connection. It takes the internet connection coming from your modem and allows you to plug more than one computer (usually 5) in to it. Some routers are even "wireless" meaning a laptop or PC with a wireless card can get an internet connection without a physical wire going to the router.
A d-link is an internet net router and a linksys is a wireless router
