Is it unsafe to unplug USB cords from the computer?
Answers:
well awnser is kinda yes and no. of course it would be bad to unplug any thing that is currently actively transmitting data and powered usb devices may short out but over all theres no real harm in just unpluging a non powered usb device now your printer an stuff ur gonna want to power off befor you unplug
i don't know why the "safely eject" feature was made in the first place, but i can tell you that nothing wrong will happen if you unplug it.
if you're not copying file to it (like a flash drive or an ipod) you can pretty much just uplug it. say you have a mouse, you can pull the plug anytime without doing anything. it will just tell you you unplugged it. printers are ok if you're not trying to print anything. the que might get stuck if you tell it to print and then unplug it immediately.
You should be ok. if its just the cable, then you can unplug that anytime
LOL
you won't get electrocuted or your computer won't freeze if you do it, but it is mostly safer for the actual device you are hooking up to your computer via USB to be disconnected that way, otherwise there is a slightly bigger risk of you loosing information on said device, that includes the Ipod.
But no there is no real big risk. It's just a good habit to get into.
Safely eject is important more for storage devices (thumb drives etc) If you are accesing the USB device while you unplug it, chances are the file will become corrupted. So make sure nothing is accessing the USB device before you unplug it. (With a printer dont worry, its really just storage devices)
It is a bit unsafe to eject a USB cord without using the safety eject feature. Using this would enable you protection against any of the voltage fluctiuations occuring while removing the cord, as the safety eject feature first switches off the usb use and hence no current is paasing through it later.
Not much difference in the two things but I insist you to take safety measures while removing them.
As I have a very horifying past experience with the same.
for usb connections hardware lyk printer, scanner, webcam, mouse etc... they can be unplug or disconnected to pc even with out safley removing it because it doesnt really have that ping... but for usb mass storage device, cardreader, mp3, mp4 player, external hard drive or devices, you realy have to safely remove that device before removing it, because sometimes the pc read from your removable device and it is unsafe to remove them. so be careful, and there will be no lost if you safely remove your usb device for a second...
Similar to my Brother printer with an incorporated multi slot, the Safely Eject tray icon appears when I pop a flash card in and recognizes it as a virtual drive.
Only in the event that I'm writing information to my flash card should I never ever pull the cord. This corrupts the flash memory, and the next time you plug in the card to any memory slot, good luck getting anything to read, format or write to the card.
Hope this helps...
