What to do if i can not see the cd and dvd drive in my computer?
Answers:
If you use XP log-in as administrator. Maybe drives has restrictions for everyone, so only as administrator you can control them.
If that the point, then log-in as administrator, AND OPEN EXPLORER Right click on the drives and choose properties. Click on security TAB and change privillages from there.
If security TAB not listed try this steps:
your hard drive must be formatted NTFS for this tab to show up.
a) if you're running XP Pro, you must open Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View and uncheck Use Simple File Sharing.
b)if you're running XP Home, Simple File Sharing is enforced by default and cannot be disabled. You must boot the computer into Safe Mode and log in with the Administrator account, in order to see the Security tab.
If above not the case then open device manager, right click on drivers to delete them and force windows find them again after rebooting.
Keep in mind though that: Adjusting the permissions on a drive, file or folder can lock even the Administrator account out of that drive/file/folder. Deny Permissions take precedence over Allow Permissions, regardless of your group membership. Administrators are members of the User's group, by default. Uncheck Allow, rather than using Deny.
im ok with comp but not sure try adding a shortcut
Open your eyes!!

if you are running on battery ... connect to ac power // and then change the power management settings for power and change it to enable well your running on battery and then your cd rom drive will not be disabled when you are on battery // it does that to consirve battery power
Try the following link:
try refreshing, if it does not work. try reinstalling it. check the driver.
Go to control panel and click on administrative tools. Then go to disk management. I've had this prob many times. Used to think it was an IRQ conflict but it's not. You can access all drives from here if not showing under My Computer.
