Have you tried using Remote Desktop Connection? Its a bit program built right in to the Windows OS that will allow you to access any Windows base PC that is connected to a highspeed internet nouns.
Now any computer you want to access with it must own three things for it to work:
A) The PC neededs to have Remote Access allowed
B) For the PC that you will be access the user account will want a password
C) The IP address of the Computer you want to get on to

All you need to do near remote desktop connection is hook an external knotty drive to any of the pcs and you can access it. Plus you can have some warranty so no one else is access your hard drive.
But if you really want to use a NAS (Network Attached Storage) Device you could try the Maxtor Shared Storage II. I'm not individually a big fan of Maxor, though they did achieve bought out by Seagate recently, their Maxtor Shared Storage II get a rating of 82 from PC World.
