The sound on my computer doesn't work. It says I have no audio device. What do I do?

For a while now, I haven't had any sound. I have speakers that work, and I'll put them on, but no sound comes out. I've been looking around control panel this morning, and under Audio it says I have no audio device. Can someone fill me in on what I have to do to get sound?

Answer:
Worst case, you may have to invest in a new sound card. This should be less then $20.00 for the part, though you may want to get help installing it if you have never ventured into your tower before. Check the plug-in and perhaps drivers before the sound card as it may be a simple fix
download and install the sound card drivers
