If I have three memory slots on my motherboard do all three have to be equal amounts of memory?

Answers:
no necessarily as long as the 1st slot contains the larger MB of mamory followed by the lower MB in the last 2 say slot 1 =256MB slot 2=128 slot 3=128 and make sure they are the same mamory such as ddr-ddr2-sdram- rdram and the pin number matches.
doesn't matter what amount of ram you put it in those slots you just can't go over the amount the mother board allows. visit here to see the type and the amount allowed for your computer. http://crucial.com it'll walk you step by step thru the proccess.

you can have 1gb in slot 1 and 512mb second slot and 256mb in the third slot or, 256mb first slot 1gb second slot and 512mb third slot ,doesn't matter what order they are in. like i said your comps bios can only handle so much.
visit site above to determine the amount your comp can handle.
