How do I hear myself when I talk in the mic? eg. using the mic for karaoke. hehe.?

I have windows vista (not sure that has anything to do with it) I have my mic plugged in - and set up. When I record my voice it works, I can hear the playback. But I want my voice directly from mic to speaker. So I can hear myself in the speaker as I talk... How do I do this? please help?

Answer:
start, settings, control panel, sounds and audio devices, place volume icon in the taskbar.

Then double click the volume icon and uncheck the microphone button (its default is mute, thats what your problem is).
something could be wrong with your speakers then
