You need to find either the WINXP disk ( OEM/Retail ) that was bought to put it on there, or the original start-up disks/recovery discs. They can start over and put the old Operating system back on there. But odds are the old files are gone. You would have to re-install all of the old software ( ipod, etc ) to get it back to where you were. There is also a possibility to get the WINXP back ( only the operating system ) if there was a recovery sector of the HDD, but I would venture to guess, your cousin deleted it...

Most likely all you need to do is start up the PC and hit F11 for recovery if the sector is still on the HDD, but otherwise, you need to make sure the PC Bios is set to 'boot to CD' and put the recovery/XP disc in the cd drive.

Good luck...
try going to the devices company web site to find a vista patch...i had to do that for a couple of things.some i just bought new ones...flash drives and such.had to find a vista patch for a company printer...its a pain...i liked my xp...bill gates the money maker
sorry.. there is almost no way to turn back the clock and go back to windows xp...

you just gonna have to go hunt for all the different vista drivers that you will need.
I just laugh (to vista maker- i.e. M$), when I heard things like this. That's why when someone is asking me to put OS (as computer technician), I recommend XP. I just don't understand those people who use vista that immediately. I read that companies used vista but that they return back to xp! I understand M$ because of money. But for the sake of computing, they should build SP3 (or more) to XP. But they don't because they won't create more money on it.

Now, my question to vista users, why use vista (that immediate) when your system is running good. You see what happened to above situation- external drive / ipod not working. I myself would like my system running perfectly even I'm not using "the latest".

Since your cousin 'daring' change your OS without considering the drivers compatibility issues, then ask him to return back your xp! If you do by yourself, you have to ready the drivers your hardware would need.

Try links below to enumerate drivers on your system.
