Why can't my win-xp play DVDs when it use to?

Is it the improvements supplied by Windows that now demands I buy their 'thigamajigits'.

it sounds like something overwrote your dvd codecs.
go get the k-lite codec pack (3.30 full)
from the link below and it should fix your issue.
make sure you install media player classic along with the codecs, it's a kick butt player.
Do you mean that it is saying you need a dvd decoder?
