How can I update my MacBook hardrive?
Answers:
You're talking about an upgrade - you cannot do that yourself without voiding your warranty. Taking apart a Macbook is easy if you know what you're doing, but you need to be very careful because you have to reapply heatsink paste and stuff. You might be better off buying external storage - something portable, maybe - and using that. I agree - 80GB sounds like a lot and then it turns out that it isn't.
If you want to upgrade the drive, you can take it to an Apple Authorized Repair Center and pay them to do it. You can even ask them to put your old drive in a little case so you can use it as an external.
Good luck!
You need to take it in to Apple and have them do it. Otherwise your warranty will be invalid.
Your best way is to buy an external hard drive, also are you aware that an I pod can be used as an external hard drive as well, just plug in the pod and drag the files to it.
i would have to agree with tam chris,a laptops hard drive is normally a straight forward upgrade ,they are placed in a hard drive bay within the mac book and you simply remove this after unscrewing the securing screws, and the drive will slide out, theres no actual ide/sata leads like in a desktop, the drive actually plugs into a connector thats at the back of the drive bay, this is why the drives held in a bay so its in the correct position to plug back in
so you could buy a larger 2.5" internal dribe such as the 160 Gb Samsung HM160JC Spinpoint M80, 2.5" IDE (PATA), 5400 rpm(http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productin... is a very large drive in notebook terms, and is quite a bargain at just under £60
the only negative aspect to this drive is its only 5400rpm spin speed, but this is normal for notebooks, and the 7200rpm drives tend to be much more expensive
obviously a easier way to create more overall storage space is to purchase a external hard drive(u.s.b 2.0),as they are plug,n,play its just a case of plugging it in as and when you need to use it,no installing or upgrading and no chance of voiding your warranty aswell
a good external drive is the 120 Gb Freecom Mobile, 1 x USB 2.0/1.1, 4200 rpm, 8MB Cache(http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productin... good external drive with a massive 120gb of extra storage space, again the spin speed is a bit on the slow side but not too bad
i hope this helps
good luck chris!
