What's the best for an external Hard drivde Seagate or Maxtor?

BOTH should be good. Since Seagate now also owns Maxtor, Seagate brand is projected as the premium brand and Maxtor as the budget brand. What is behind the label could just be the same.

This is pretty much down to each and every one of us. Some say this some say that. If you do a search on google you'll get as many answers. Me myself use only western digitals as I feel comfortable with them. Some use seagate and some use maxtor. I have used maxtor some years ago and might have had a bad run as they died on me.
I have friends that use seagate and swear by them but i have as many friends that hate them.
You'll have to pick one that you feel comfortable with and has a good rep. Id say you should choose between WD, Seagate and Hitachi.
Lacie, Maxtor, Mercury, iOmega, are the external leaders.
Seagate is primarly Internal
