I have been advised to format my pc.. how do i go about it?
Answers:
boot in command prompt and type:
format c:
Depends what operating system your using. If it's XP stick in the disk, restart your computer and hit F12 until a screen comes up asking where to boot from, select CD then press a key when it asks you to, then follow the on screen instructions.
For better details type formatting 'Your operating System' on google.
PS remember formatting wipes 'EVERYTHING' off your computer so save everything first or it will be lost.
if r advised to format ur PC...that's to reinstall the operating system, use XP disc to format and then reinstall the XP.

Hello there this is peter mccaaul here i am a worker at a top photo booth in nottingham england now to get to the point if you go into your control panel you will be able to format it or alternateivly send it up to microsoft
if 98
put in 98 disc, menu will appear (if your pc is set to boot from cd, if it is not, then if, you have a young enough machine there will be a boot order key at the first screen you see, called the bios screen, usually press f10 (f11 or f12), and a small menu will appear with all your available drives, i.e. cds dvds etc. pick cd/dvd drive, then the aforementioned 98 menu will appear, if not then you will have to ender your bios by either f1, f2 or del key, now, dependant on your bios, i.e. if pheonix bios, go to boot menu and change to boot from cd/dvd in boot order, if amibios then advanced bios options from main menu, then change first boot device to cd/dvd, then win98 cd menu will appear).
choose option 2 - boot with cdrom support
c:\ prompt should appear, if not type 'c:\ ' at whatever letter prompt appears
type 'cd windows' at command prompt and return in all cases where your type anything
type 'format c:'
you will then be asked a question 'are your sure?' type 'y' and return.
However, I think you mean by your question, not format but re-install windows, in that case do everything up til 'choose option 2', instead hit return on option 1 and follow prompts
if any other operating system you wish to install from cd then start at if your pc will boot from a cd and follow bios configuration as laid-out at the beginning of this answer
