It says the device is working properly on the one hand and when I look at the first tab on the sounds and audio devices panel it says there is no device. It's the same damn panel!! How can the device be working properly when it says there is no device?? Anyway I get no sounds and it says the sound card may be in use when I try to play any system sounds. Everything checks out normally like it should be working. HELP!

you probably need to reinstall the audio device driver.
Try uninstalling the driver. then reinstalling it. I had the same problem with my hp, and after a full reformat the sound worked, so maybe some sort of virus? idk, give it a shot. good luck hope this helps.
