Local cooling software ???????

i recently downloaded a thing from download.com its meant to help save energy i havent installed it and was wondering (i have hardly any mememory left) if it was worth the install time

Cooling Software..LOL!

Well no it;s not worth it. those programs work by shutting down parts of the computer that is not in use. kind of like the power save but on a more active level...it also unclocks(slows down) the CPU in the computer causing it to run slower...
it saves on energy but you lose speed..the onjly real way to cool is mechanicly, fans , heatsinks, even liqud cooling...

I'd say just turn it off when not in use..and if theres a heat problem then open your case clean it out, and add some fans...
Well, it's definitely a cool software. It isn't of much help, but you at least get the satisfaction that you are doing your bit towards prevention of global warming with a bit of local cooling!! It's very tiny and hardly takes any resource, so you can just keep it on your desktop like that.
Uninstall it. Whatever it is, it is unlikley to be any use whatsoever.

What can help however, is software from CPU manufacturers. If you have an AMD CPU, then it is called 'Cool and Quiet' and if you have an Intel Chip, it is called SpeedStep.

These work by underclocking and undervolting the CPU when it is under low load conditions and they do work.
Firstly no software can cool a computer. The software should be for monitoring the temp. and warning the user if the temp. becomes high.
You can install it if you want your computer to be monitored.
Gam3Fr3ak's right, get the software from the manufacturer.

But, if you have vista, CoolnQuiet is already installed, you just need to enable it in your bios settings.

The cooling software is similar, but uses CPU cycles to do the same job CoolnQuiet does in hardware (if you have the drivers onboard).

JBV^_^
i must agree with the other answers, cooling is a part of your p.c done by yourself, not by a program
a good p.c should have a front and rear fan,the rear fan being half way down and the front fan being at the bottom, this configuration gives you p.c optimal cooling and best efficency
depending on the type of processor you use some enthusiasts use other types of cooling such as water cooling, were they use non-conductive luquid to cool their processors to lower tempertures that can be gained by normal heatsink technology
however water cooling dosent come cheap, with water cooling kits costing around £200,however you can buy cheaper kits for around £70 but this is a component were the more expensive is better
your best bet is to first try to upgrade your memory, depending on your memory type(sd ram,ddr,ddr2)you can buy a 512mb module for around £15,,take a look at http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productin... for only £30 you could upgrade a extra 1gb,plus what you allready have, you will then see a massive performace boost
any problems mate let me know
good luck mate!
