My CD-RM or CD-RW isn't working adjectives of a sudden..?

They own worked before than adjectives of a sudden they are not working. I am running Win200 Pro, but I go into my device manager and uninstalled the drivers and next re-installed the drivers; but it is still not working. So, I took the computer apart and made sure the BUS be connected correctly and everything is okay with that also. I run a virus scan and I came up next to a couple of viruses that I "Put surrounded by the chest". Anyhow.. My drives had worked fine until that time but now they are not wanting to work. Any aid would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
This might be an issue with your IDE controller. Are these drives on indistinguishable cable? Try 1 at a time. Are they on IDE slot 0, or 1? try each slot independently of the other. Does BIOS see your drive(s)? look contained by your setup to see if the drives are being accepted by BIOS. If you happen to hold a bootable cd, you can try booting with it a bit than going straight to the hard drive.
If it's relatively mature, then the existence of the thing might lately be up. Buy a new one, try that out. If that doesn't work, return it and afterwards try new cable. It could be any number of things.

Question: how are they 'not working?' Is the disc not spinning, is the device not being detected contained by windows? It's unyielding to help minus knowing more details.
