My CD-RM or CD-RW isn't working all of a sudden..?

They have worked before than all of a sudden they are not working. I am running Win200 Pro, but I went into my device manager and uninstalled the drivers and then re-installed the drivers; but it is still not working. So, I took the computer apart and made sure the BUS was connected correctly and everything is okay with that also. I ran a virus scan and I came up with a couple of viruses that I "Put in the chest". Anyhow.. My drives had worked fine before but now they are not wanting to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:
This might be an issue with your IDE controller. Are these drives on the same cable? Try 1 at a time. Are they on IDE slot 0, or 1? try each slot independently of the other. Does BIOS see your drive(s)? look in your setup to see if the drives are being recognized by BIOS. If you happen to have a bootable cd, you can try booting with it rather than going straight to the hard drive.
If it's relatively old, then the life of the thing might just be up. Buy a new one, try that out. If that doesn't work, return it and then try new cables. It could be any number of things.

Question: how are they 'not working?' Is the disc not spinning, is the device not being detected in windows? It's hard to help without knowing more details.
when you say not working like does the door open and close, does it play or does it spin can u tell
