What is the different between a usb cable and a firewire cable ? which is better ?
Answers:
I can answer this question better than most because I have used firewire and USB separately and the results point to firewire being better. It's not just speed of the cable for data transfer because if it was that alone, anyone with patience will just wait a tad longer for file transfer. The most important thing is the video quality from firewire against USB is like the sun and the moon. With USB, the video is grainy, smaller and jerky. With firewire downloads off the video camera, the resolution is clear with no jerky frames and full picture. I found that video editing the frames on commercial software with firewire is the only way to go. USB is totally unacceptable with poor results.
Firewire connector is much smaller than USB connector, more like a camera connector. Firewire is the faster interface saving download time which is why most digital camcorders use it. Having said that, there isn't much difference between firewire and USB 2, the original USB is painfully slow in comparison
Firewire is faster of the two, however many machines (particularly desktops) will require an extra card in order to have firewire. Some of the newer laptops have a firewire port on them, but they are the smaller type of firewire plug, so you would need a plug/cord other than what comes with your excessory.
One thing to keep in mind is that the digital video cameras are almost all firewire so if that is what you are planning on hooking up then you will HAVE to get firewire.
