Is it easy to connect another hard drive to my new computer?
Answers:
Very easy. If it's SATA, then you just plug it into the SATA port. If it's IDE then you change the Jumper to Slave and hook it up to the second port on the IDE ribbon.
The RAM probably isnt compatible but the Hard drive probably will be.
It's pretty easy, Take apart the old computer, go slowly, remove the hard drive, (it is labeled) this plug it into your new computer in the same fasion it in plugge dinto the old computer...
Dont worry about breaking your new computer, you will not break it as long as you are gentle. the worst thing that can happen is that your computer does not boot up properly, but then to fix the problem, just remove the old hard drive, and your computer will work perfectly again.
The risk of your breaking your new computer is very small and you shouldnt worry about it.
It shouldn't be too hard to connect your new hard drive and memory. What you have to make sure is that the connections between them and your new motherboard are compatible. Hard drives shouldn't be a problem in general but watch out for memory because motherboards can be quite fickle. It'd be great if you know the specs of your hard drive, memory and motherboard.
Probably not a problem for the hard drive, but usually the memory requrements are different, check whith the place you are buying the new computer to see if it can use the same memory as your old computer.
Assuming your older memory moduals and hard drive are compatable with your new motherboard and operating system, yes, it is easy, plug and play.
Before you install the older memory, go to www.crucial.com and make sure the memory and mobo are compatible. If not, you could damage both the older moduals and the mobo.
If you have XP, when the computer reboots, after installation of the hard drive, just look for that drive using "my computer." It'll let you know which drive letter is assigned to it.
I hope this helps.
yes
yeh its easy come to my shop ill do it for you.
yes, you can connect your old hard disk to the new pc. but about the memory...maybe it won't be working! is the memory compatible with your system?
yes andrew, adding a new hard drive is one of the easiest tasks you can do on a computer
too add a second drive follow these steps
1)look at the drive and change the jumpers(if needed)to "slave",there should be a diagram on top of the drive to show you the jumper settings for that drive
2)turn off and unplug your p.c
3)open up your p.c case
4)locate a spare drive bay and place the drive in there
5)screw at least 2 screws in to secure the drive to the bay
6)using a master/slave ide cable insert the slave plug(second from end)into the slave drive, the end plug should allready be plugged into the master (current)drive
7)attach a spare 5v molex power connector to the power socket on the drive,it will only go in one way so dont force it
8)double check all connections and check for correct fitting
9)close up p.c case
10)turn back on p.c
11)once the p.c boots up leave for about 2 minutes so windows can recognize the new drive and configure it correctly
12)jobs done!
normally the drive should install ok and windows will install it automatically, however if things dont go as normal go into set up(press delete at start) and check in advanced cmos settings, and make sure all the ide drives are set to "auto".
note:sata drives need their drivers installed and must be configured correctly (check your p.c/motherboards manual for this info)
i hope this helps!
easy as pie!if your ram is ddr1 and the the board in the new computer only supports ddr2 or the other way around then no.if you have ddr2 or ddr1 and the board takes ddr2/1 then yes, otherwise depends on your hard disk type
