Which is faster usb 2.0, or firewire?

i dont know what speed my firewire port is, but it is a 1394 plug.

Answer:
It is more than likely a FireWire 400 port, meaning it operates at up to 400Mb/s (400 megabits per second.)

Although USB 2.0 has a higher top possible speed (480Mb/s) FireWire is usually faster in real world use. Each have their respective strengths. USB for example is great for printers and scanners and external hard drives for quick backups. FireWire is better suited when you need sustained transfer speed, such as working with digital video (most DV cameras use FireWire to interface with a PC.)

Be sure to only plug USB 2.0 devices into a USB 2.0 port. If you plug in a slower USB 1.1 device in to a 2.0 port, all devices on that channel will slow down to USB 1.1 speeds. Many people forget this and plug in their older USB 1.1 hub into their new PC and wonder why they have dismal USB performance.
USB 2.0 is faster.
USB 2.0 has three data rates, Low Speed at 1.5Mbps, Full Speed at 12Mbps and Hi-Speed at 480Mbs.

There are two types of FireWire, FireWire 400 and 800. FireWire 400 (FW400) can transfer data up to 400Mbps and 800 (FW800) up to 800Mbps -- both are 1394 type connectors but only the 1394b can support both 800 and 400.
FireWire, When running on Windows XP or Windows Vista.

Usb. 2.0, When running any other operating system.

FireWire is 2 - 5x faster then Usb 2.0 on a normal operating system.
