Is the 8600GT a good enough Direct X 10 Graphics Card for resolutions of 1280*1024?

I got vista and want a cheap graphics card which plays games well

Answer:
At 1280x1024, the 8600 GT can run any game currently on the market.

Yes the 8800 GTS is better, as you will hear many people say, but its also overkill at that resolution (not to mention $150 more).

That being said, many of the DX9 cards at competing price points (such as the 7900 GS, Radeon x1950 Pro) which can be found close to the same price point deliver FAR superior performance in games at this point. I have an x1950 Pro myself, and I can turn up the AA and AF all the way at the 1280x1024 res. You wouldn't be able to do so with an 8600 GT.

So you have to decide what you value more. DX10, or real world performance.
The 8600GT (in my opinion) is a low-end solution for gaming in DX10. You would be better served by looking into an 8800 GTS 320 MB version. It has more power than the 8600 and is now very close in price if you can find one on sale or with a rebate, as they often are. I still wouldn't classify either card as "cheap" though. :-)
