On a GeForce 8500GT Graphics card what does the GT stand for and also whats the difference between GT and GS?

Answers:
in the name geforce 8500gt the gt actually stands for gigatonne,a metric measure of mass ,which is why the gt is more powerful than the gs
however the gs stands for general speed, and this is reflected in their speed difference with the gt
then on to the difference between the two cards, the 8500gt has better clock and memory speeds.although the video memory is the same and the stream processors(used to be called "pixel pipelines" in the 5,6 and 7 series of nvidia cards)are more in the gt than the gs
the gtx is basically a supercharged version of a gt,and also the gtx ultra, such as the geforce 8800gtx ultra is normally the fastest card in that family
although gs cards are normally scorned at they are actually quite good,ok the clock speeds are not as fast as the gt or gtx but if your using the card for watching videos and playing less demanding games these are ideal
i hope this helps
good luck mate!
who knows what GT stands for, but GTS is clocked higher than GT
The GS is the better model, but both are bottom of the barrel and you won't be playing games with either.

Look as the blue lines (8500gt VS 8600gt):

the GTS is better but you pay 50 quid more for a card with 50mhz processor or sumthin like that!
vanilla(no suffix)<GS<GT<GTS<GTX<ultra (GTS meant Gigatexel Shader on the geforce 2 GTS but on the newer series its just a meaningless suffix)these suffixes denote speed or amount of disabled pipes or both not all graphics cores have (and usually have no meaning)multiple suffixes some have only 1.
I have not heard of a 8500 gs.
