How to install an operating system?
my hard disc capacity is 80 gb with four partitions.
Answer:
First of all, you need a bigger hard drive. Windows XP takes up about 5-10 gigs depending on what you have installed and vista is sure to be bigger. If your partition fills up, your performance will suffer, and you wont be able to add little things like java updates and windows updates and then you will be up a certain kind of creek without a paddle. You can get a 250 GB SATA HDD for like 65 dollars. Or a 150 for like 45-50. I haven't had less than 150 GB since 2002. Thats just not enough space on a desktop computer where you store music and pictures and videos.
For the second part of your question, Vista will ask you if to want to upgrade XP or install Vista on a different drive (or virtual drive i.e. partition). If you choose the later, it will automatically create a dual boot option before windows even
loads. It will default to vista, but you can choose from a boot menu to load an earlier version of windows. There you have it.
Upgrade or add another Hard Drive and pop in the disk and follow the instructions. Simple.
Hope this helps.
I haven't tried this myself but I did find this tutorial assuming that you wanted both XP and Vista together(called a dual boot with XP already in). Good luck.

You could try to install Vista on a DIFFERENT, UNUSED PARTITION. During boot-up you will see something like
Windows Vista
Pre-Vista version of Windows
This is a dual-boot setup. Note that 80 GB is not a lot of disk space for two operating systems, though it may just fit.
When booting up XP, try to ignore the VISTA partition and when running Vista ignore the XP partition. You cannot use the same disk for both.
Be careful - it is possible to wipe out what you have!
installl vista on a different partition and there you go
i dont know
