Use the VGA adapter. HDTV is a video standard that only applies to televisons, not computer monitors. HD refers to a minimum rank of resolutions. Computer monitors have much highly developed levels of resolution than HD. The HD standard is 1280x720 pixels and top pit 1080p is 1920x1080.
I am running a 7950 GT at 1650x1050, which is the native resolution of my monitor. Your card is competent of up to 2560 x 1600 or "1600p", even with VGA, and is with the sole purpose limited by your monitor and video content source.
As your monitor is a TV, it will not enjoy computer resolutions but the VGA adapter is capable of HDTV output. However, if you are going to upgrade to a video card of that power, I recommend buying a monitor that will allow it to perform contained by all its glory, otherwise it is misspent horsepower. There are plenty of lesser cards that can do the max 720p of that TV and you will see definitely no difference.
