What would i need?
Answer:
Sounds like maybe the PC simply is not up to the job.
You didn't mention the processor it runs, or the software you wtch DVDs / movies with.
If it has a 20G drive it might simply not have enough oomph to deal with the latest sets of Micro$ofts bloated media player and stuff.
I still run an ancient version of Power DVD, simply because it uses almost no system power itself, and means I can do other stuff while I watch DVD in a window
Looks like your computer is really too weak for comfortable movie watching. Though you could be try to use any another software for movie playing, or download and install any another codec. Sometimes such things are quite helpful for weak computers.
what do you have for ram?it might take up more memory than u have to watch movies.if you don't know go to
18004memory.com
and find out what you have and how much u can use.
pay attention to the type.you can use only the type made for ur unit
Update the aspi drivers for the roms version 4.7 I think and disable the dma mode for the drive. Clean your CD/DVD media use plain water no soap.Exit all unnecessary software. go to the device manager and remove duplicate drivers that windows may have loaded the size of the hard drive does not matter as long as you have 8-10gb free space for the movie.Even then you would recieve a error message not enough space on disk. Check for firmware updates for your rom. Check the requirments for playing the movie your vga adapter might not be enough to run the movie.
I think the easiest thing to do is upgrade your CPU to Intel Dual, Ram to minimum 512, Hard disk to 80 GB, Video card to higher memory.
upgrade is cheaper than buying a new PC.
Just tell the computer shop and they will know what to do.
Check out your processor. Also, what kind of video is it? H264 is currently the most CPU-Intesive to render. MPEG-2 much fatser
you havent said how muchg RAM your unit has. RAM allows more to be done at one time (like sand passing through a wider mouthed funnel).
My laptop runs motion picture just fine with 1.6 Ghz speed on 768MB ram, and its spec'd out for 1 GBram. those figures should be similar to what you need for yours.
dont let any of these ppl fool you with 80GB hard drive stories, it just shows they dont know what they are talking about. multi-GB hard drives have nothing to do with playing a movie unless you are COPYING the movie. Its just for storage and the buffer. The ram value is much much more critical, with the processor speed being a close second.
You dont use the buffer or the hdd for listening to cd's, so by the same token you wont need them for watching movies. focus on nthe ram value and the processor speed.
