Laser pointer voltage?

how much voltage does a cheep little laser pointer handle?

also can you make burning lasers out of anything else than a DVD burner laser or does it have to be a DVD burner??

and also mike, how do the lasers that point around corners [like the "laser levels"] work?
Laser pointers typically require no more than a few volts; from one to three cells should suffice. For a laser capable of burning anything except a CD/DVD (where the burned spots are submicroscopic), you will need a laser of some power; battery-operated won't do it.
