What are the advantages of having a sound card rather than an integrated audio on the motherboard?

Is it worth it of buying a sound card?I am going to buy an ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard...is the sound good on the mobo? And if it is worth buying one...is it worth it of buying a 30$ sound card?Plz Help.Tnx.

Answer:
My (old) laptop comes with an integrated soundcard but when I purchased my first set of (computer) 5.1 speakers, they couldn't handle the job, which is why I splashed out on a Creative soundcard and really think it's worth it! :D Especially when it comes to watching movies and listening to music.
Unfortunately I can't comment on whether the integrated soundcard on the ASUS motherboard is anygood.
30 dollar cards are not going to significantly upgrade your sound but it may be ok if you need extra jacks. In theory, it can add some extra inputs and outputs and some behind the scenes software. If youre using it to add some effects in a game, it would be a good idea. If you're a serious music listener, it would be better to get a good card.
