USB hub locks up PC?

If my USB hub is attached to my PC (even with nothing attached to the hub) when I turn it on the PC fails to start. If I unplug it, it then continues to load into windows. This is a real pain. I've tried 2 different makes of hub. Any suggestions welcome.

Answer:
I have same problem with a card reader.
If you are trying to connect a USB2 hub to a USB1 socket then you are in for a multitude of problems. Also USB hubs take power directly from the mainboard which can also cause problems.

Best solution is to get a PCI card with up to 4 USB2 sockets on it and you will be well away as long as you are using a fairly modern operating system
Non powered hubs draw power from the pc,use a hub with an external power supply.i.e. plugged into the mains.
