Accidental reformatting of memory card?
Answers:
If you have a card slot on your computer you can put the card from your camera in there. If not just do it the way you thought with the usb. depending on the software though is whether or not your stuff will be recovered. you should go to www.majorgeeks.com/Active_UNDE...
and download active@ undelete 5.5. This is shareware it may limit how many files you can recover. You may also may be able to google the software and find it for free.
My Husband runs a recovery service and says to download PhotoRec from www.lifehacker.com/software/do... download-of-the-day-photorec-1...
If you reformatted the memory card that's it your done.
No way you can recover the data.
A specialists can with the right equipment.
Drives have this table that tells them what files are on it, names, sizes, locations on the physical drive, etc. Reformatting usually just erases the table.
In other words, your computer doesn't overwrite the files you have when you format it, only the information telling it how to access those files, allowing it to write other data to that physical location. Data recovery programs go in and look at the drive and figure out what files were there, and brings them back so the computer can access them again.
The good news is your files are still there and a good data recovery program can usually get them back 99%. The important thing is not to write ANY data to the card before you recover, or it will be much harder to get anything back.
If your camera is viewed as an external drive when you plug it in, it should work with the data recovery. I prefer to plug in my card in a card reader though. One thing I'd suggest is plugging in the camera to a power source so you don't have something die during the recovery.
Good luck!
