I want to by a new computer i can get 1 for £350 it has a 4mb cache core duo 3.0GHZ processor and 512MB RAM?
Answers:
The processor looks fine, 3GHz is about as fast as a stock dual core goes!
You will need more RAM, 512Mb just doesn't cut it these days, I'd go for at lease double that 1Gb (2Gb would be better) if you're going to be running Vista.
The HDD looks a little on the small side, I bought a 300gb one a year ago thinking I'd never be able to fill it, I was wrong, music and film downloads take up quite a bit of space ;) I've just bought 2 500Gb Samsung drives (only £68 each!!)
I'd say "buy nice, don't buy twice" - Get at least 1Gb of RAM and a bigger HDD and you'll have a system that'll last you a while.
You can always buy additional components later on and upgrade.
Hope this helps

Processor and hard drive sound fine (However if you are going to download a lot of music or films you may want to invest in a separate hard drive for storage purposes).
I would definitely look at adding more memory if possible. Basically the more memory your computer has, the more things it can do at once.
Hope this helps a bit.
512mb and vista is suicide
1. Cache is simply something that helps the PC work faster. The more, the better.
2. Yes. You may upgrade at any time.
3. Slowness is a matter of opinion. Most would think that 512 MB for Vista would not be enough.
4. To go quicker, you need more RAM. A bigger hard drive will not help at all, and a better processor might be expensive.
Sounds like an eMachines.
at least 1 Gb ram for vista, bro.
That is never enough for vista basic, it'll be as slow as snail.
£350 - if that is fully loaded with OS then go for it. The processor and hard drive are ample but if you are planning on doing many downloads I would suggest a second IDE or SATA hard drive or alternatively a large external hard drive (poss via USB) for storage purposes. The only thing you may benefit from increasing is the amount of RAM if it is only 512Mb you may find Vista running a bit slow I would suggest perhaps doubling this amount. Should still keep you within budget too.
I think that 1gb RAM is the minimum for running Vista without slowing up the computer too much.
That system should come with no less than 1gb memory otherwise seems ok for the price.
