I need to buy a PC to work in Illustrator, Photoshop and some 3-D. What characteristics should the PC have?

I would get a processor that has at least 3.00GHz and at least double core!
I would also get lots of RAM. RAM is what allows you to have several things open at once, maybe 2 GB of that.
And lots of HDD space, I'm thinking 200GB at least.
Dell is a good computer, you can custom build at dell.com.
Or, you can go to http://tigerdirect.com and select parts to build your own computer. Custom built computers are easier to update though.
My computer works alright with Photoshop and etc.
It has a 2.00 GHz 64-bit AMD processor
1 GB of RAM
250GB of HD space
two harddisk for data and system files, AMD 64, XP64, two monitors, wacom for free hand drawing, 512 video card, 4 gig RAM.
TigerDirect is horrible. Try NewEgg or ZipZoomFly.
I have made the mistake of ordering through TD and they charged my card, then delayed my order (4 times) ,would not let me cancel my order saying it was shipped (then delay it again.) I ended up calling my CC company to get the charge reversed and then ordered from Newegg.
As far as specs I have the following on the PC that I use for Adobe CS2:
Intel C2D E6600 at 2.4 ghz
2gb of DDR2 ram
WD Raptor 150gb harddrive as boot / install drive
WD 500gb hard drive as storage / scratch disk
Nvidia 7900 GT graphics card
