How to Increase the speed of computer?

give me some tips for increasing the speed of my p4 computer

Answers:
put it on wheels
BYING/INSTALLING MORE MEMORY
overclock the CPU, install more RAM, at least 2 gb
upgrade memory to at least 1gb., 2gb is best
u can delete some files that u dont need... or u can just simply install more memory into ur computer.. but that would cost money and they would have to check if ur computer can get more memory.. if it cant... the only thing u can do is just delete the files that u dont need or programs u dont use at all...
try defragmenting, deleting unnecessary picture, movie, song files, clean out your cookies.
1. Put more memory into it.
2. Run anti-spyware and anti-virus programs
3. Do not load up a bunch of unnecessary stuff when you start it.
4. Have a big enough hard drive with at least 1/3 of it being empty
Um...well you could buy a new processor, core-dou is the best. or for a cheaper solution, buy another 1 GB stick of RAM. That will greatly increase the speed of your computer.

Do both to make your computer really fly... :)
- Increase system memory to reduce swapping files to the disk.
- Upgrade processor to fastest that is compatible with motherboard
- Faster disk.
- Second disk on another controller, then move applications to that disk and leave OS on its own disk. Place pagefile on application disk too.
- Purchase faster graphic card (if gaming frame rates is an issue)
- Examine running processes to determine which are necessary and disable launch of those not needed (for example if you have QuickTime installed, it runs the qttask to maximize its performance so it preloads, even if you don't view many videos)
- Buy new computer
go 2 start then all programs, accessories, system tools, disc clean-up (should be done every week!).
Well, at a basic level, you can install more RAM. Always, the more the merrier. Make sure you dont go out and buy a bunch of 2 GB sticks hoping to get 8 GB total. Check and see if a) your mobo supports dual channel memory b) whats the maximum RAM supported [XP Home maxes out at 3 GB, XP Pro at 4 GB and I'm not sure abotu Vista] c) make sure you are buying the correct type [Check the motherboard specifications to determine if it is DDR, DDR2 or whatever]. d) check the max RAM allowed per slot. Some mobos allow on 1024 MB and not 2048 MB, per slot.

On a more advanced level, you could overclock your system. However, BE WARNED, THIS IS FOR MORE ADVANCED USERS AND CAN CAUSE SERIOUS PROBLEMS IF DONE INCORRECTLY. You need more than stock cooling for this and a more than basic knowledge of BIOS and the like. Use the link below for this option but do it AT YOUR OWN RISK! Link below is basic overclocking info. Go to google and put in "how to overclock" for more resources.
Try deleting programs that you dont use in Control Panel
First take your computer to the top of a tall building, cliff, basically any high platform, or air craft and release over the side.
It will accelerate at a rate of 32ft per second per second, until it reaches it's terminal velocity, which will depend on various conditions, height of building, drag produced by air borne electronic device, various atmospheric conditions... but rest assured, it should obtain a velocity to meet your expectations.
Well, there are many ways to increase the speed of your computer. If your talking about CPU power, then there is one way, by OVERCLOCKING your CPU. Overclocking is the method where in you are going to push the limits of your CPU, say if you have an 800 MHZ CPU, then by using the method overclocking you can double the speed of it. The bad effect of this, is that you CPU will also double its heat generation, making it super, super, dooper, hot! The only way to make it cool is by using, Liquid Nitrogen or Water Cooling Systems. But this should be done by an expert because the method is complex. But if your talking about, performance regarding speeding up of applications, then you might want to upgrade your MEMORY. I would suggest that if you really want a realiable PC, then you should have at least 256MB of RAM. You know, there are different ways of making your PC run fast. Regarding software applications there are various elements that would influence the performance of your PC. Like if you installed an anti-virus software it will dramatically make your PC slower. Or your PC might be infected with a virus.
you can get more ram but sometimes this wont change much if you already have a descent amount around a gig of ram is good running a disk defrag and removing unnecessary files will help and doesn't cost anything you can also download programs to run your CPU faster this is usually called overclocking but can be dangerous as it can cause overheating and bye bye computer. on the other hand alot of processors don't run at the MHz that they are specified as do a google search on a program called rightmark CPU clock utility its free download and install this will let you adjust your CPU while in windows avoiding the pain of doing it in bios sometimes you cant depends on the motherboard. also download mobmeter, this will allow you to monitor your CPU temp before upping the speed of your CPU check the temperature that its currently on an try not to let it run more then about 10 degrees hotter. you can probably get away with more temp increase but i don't want to give you the wrong advise and end up blowing your comp. check out some forums on safe temps though before you do this

dont go out and buy a **** load of ram as it is expensive and after a while it doesnt make much difference. if you dont believe me ask the guy at the computer shop. its like a car a car can have a certain amount of horsepower to reach a certain speed but after a while adding horsepower wont help in increasing the cars top speed unless other variables are adjusted accordingly
2GB ram good video card good small hard drive no bad tracks installing windows again. your computer will fly after that.
The following can be done for FREE:

1st: Delete all the files that you don't need. Go to Add or Remove programs on the Control Panel and uninstall any programs you do not need. If you are not sure what a program does, google it.

2nd: Run disk cleanup under Start, System Tools. This will get rid of other unnecessary files.

3rd. Run your antivirus software. Download Ad-Aware. Spybot Search and Destroy, Windows Defender, and CCleaner (all free). Run them all. These will delete any cookies and other unnecessary stuff. CCleaner (registry cleaner part) should be used with care. Make sure to backup changes just in case something happens.

4th: After you have done all this, run the disk defragmenter. (Start, System tools). You may want to let this run overnight as it does take a while. What it does is moves sections of files close to each other rather than scattered all over the hard drive. This makes for faster access.

After all this is done, you should see some improvement. Another option is to buy and install more RAM. I personally wouldn't try this myself, but places like Best Buy and Circuit City have people who are trained to do it.
One of the easiest and most effective ways is to go to the start menu, run, write msconfig, go to the startup tab, disable everything from starting up. The most annoying thing about people's computers is that they make the computer do all these unnecessary tasks that take up a lot of memory and cpu power.
Also, get rid of ALL your virus scan programs; those take up a lot of computer power. You need to learn like I have, what not to click, where not to go on the internet, and what not to download from. I don't have one virus scan prog and my computer is fine. Also, turn off your firewall, go to your security center turn off any alerts for updates, don't have windows do automatic updates, those also slow it down. You need to learn to control and constantly monitor your computer yourself. This way you don't need all these stupid adaware programs. Don't use ANY AT ALL spyware detecting programs; if you think you have spyware. Go to google search trend micro, they have an online virus scan and spam detector that works extremely well; it's always worked for me. Hope you can make good use of this advice :)

To actually make your p4 faster you would have to overclock it, which I don't recommend overclocking a p4 because they run hot. If you do want to overclock it, figure out how to replace your fan system with a water cooling system. It's expensive and a bit tricky, but if you want it to run fast that's what you gotta do. You can buy water cooling kits at xoxide.com.

Also, buy more ram, you should have atleast 1gig of ram to run nicely. Buy corsair value select sticks they're cheap and last a long time. Corsair is my favorite. I've attached a link of where you can buy it from.

P.S. this is only a good setup for personal computers not business computers; you cannot gamble your business.

It works very well.
