Windows 98 computer keeps restarting at loading screen.?

My friend bought a cheap Windows 98 computer from a computer store. The computer was working fine for quite a while but recently it has not. Whenever he begins to start up his computer, it works as if nothing is wrong, but when it gets past the Windows 98 loading screen, it goes to a quick blue screen and then restarts and repeats the process.

What should we do? He does not have a Windows 98 CD or anything that originally came with the computer.

Thanks in advance.

Answers:
More than likely he has a bad boot sector - from a power surge or some such thing. As long as he has the COA (certificate of authenticity), he can borrow someone else's Windows 98 disc and reinstall.

As of last summer (7/06) Microsoft does not support Win98. He can still download updates from before and until 7/06, but he should really consider upgrading the OS. If it's a Intel P2 or earlier, he should really upgrade the PC. Peripherals can be re-used for the most part (Monitor, keyboard, mouse) unless he wants to upgrade those too.
The blue screen in known by experts as the "Blue screen of Death." For more info on it, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/blue_screen...
