Why does my hard drive make a whirring noise that isn't too loud it is annoying?

It happens at start up and almost never stops. Plz help.

Some hard drives are quiet, some are a little louder, simple as that...
Could be your power supply fan... are you sure it's your hard drive? Fan could be dirty, or it could be in need of replacement.
it is probably the sound of the platters spinning and is normal
yes, it mean's that your hdd is working ;) and no, it's not annoying...
Depends on harddrive. Not all of them are quiet.
It's probably a Maxdor HDD, they are known to be very noisy!!
I have a 250gig Western digital and it is extremely quiet!
