Is the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ better than the Intel Dual-Core e2140 CPU?

my friend and i are both getting new computers, he from a self managed computer store, and myself from hp. his computer is extimated by this company for 862 dollars. wha the would be getting is

250gb hard drive, 512mb video card, 1-2 gb ram, Intel Dual-Core e2140 CPU, 250 watt power supply, and windows xp

my computer would have the following, and is store bought.

AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ processor, 2gb installed memory, 320gb hard drive, havent found the power supply yet, 128 mb onboard video card i think, but i am willing to buy a 512, so lets compare as if it already hada 512. and my total would come to 667 without the video card, and after i would assume only about 100-120 more. so my question is which is better, also as a sub question which processor is better. i hear that the intel that hes getting has 1.6 ghz where the athelon has 2.2 ghz
also note that this company was willing oto charge me 1,300 for the same computer, but he has a discount from his parents

thank you

imo the athlon will be better ... regardless the processor wont make much difference in real world use i have both and use the athlon machine for heavy tasks ...the videocard u need to worry more about the gpu than the memory on the card ..
confusin for others so listen to me ( it dont matter cuz the guys only rob u ) the fastest is the best hp ya forget acer. go with the hp one. and i dont mean heinz paste it stands for hewitt packard.
Yours is better right now but he can upgrade it to be better then yours.
Hell NO. Intel has something called wide dynamic executioin. More or less the cpu's can share cache. AMD sucks, they are inferior to Intel and an intel chip is better than an amd anyday.
Please be aware that this is my opinion. AMD and Intel is a lot like pepsi and coke, everyone has their own taste. The same goes for an ATI or NVIDIA Video card.

IMHO go Intel always . AMD is cheeeezzzzzyyyy.
I personally like AMD better if you are using a desktop unit. It all depends on your preference. AMD is much more powerful, but that extra power causes it to wear down a bit faster. Meanwhile, Intel uses a bit less power, but lasts longer. They're both good chips in their own respects, but it all depends on whether you want to replace it a little more often.
The short answer is the atholon. The atholon is the cheaper buy ant the performance will be comparable to the Dual Core. A Intel Dual Core outperforms the X2 but unless you are an extremely heavy user you wont be able to tell the difference.

I'd get the second one.
