If I try to view videos or watch dvd's or play/burn cd's on my comp. the screen goes black and shows a blue box with DPMS
OFF MODE
the busy light come on on the dvd player and comp turns off.

DPMS stands for Display Power Management Signaling. "DPMS OFF MODE" is basically your monitor's way of telling you, "Hey, I'm shutting off now."

As for WHY your computer is completely shutting off every time you view videos/play dvds/play cds is kinda hard to guess.

I'd expect it would be a very strange issue with your video card, but I've never seen a video card error shut down a pc before. Plus, playing and burning CDs has nothing to do with your video card.

My best advice is to make sure your video drivers are up to date just in case it actually IS a video card issue.

Otherwise, the more unlikely answer is that your computer isn't staying cool enough, and every time you try to do something that strains your processor (all the actions stated above), it overheats and your whole system shuts down.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
Whats your os? You just might have a virus.
