More info on RAM?
I opened my machine to see if all the details were on my RAM sticks but they aren't. Is there anyway to find out exactly what will be compatible with my computer without paying some fat guy more money than the service is worth?

First off, is it a name brand computer? Is it Compaq, HP, IBM, Gateway, etc? If it is, simply go to the manufacturer's web site and get the information on your particular model there. They'll have the tech specs on line.
If it is not a name brand, then look on the motherboard for a brand name and a model number. EVERY motherboard that is not brand name has this printed on it (many brand name motherboards do as well). Then go to the manufacturer's web site and look up the motherboard model there to get the proper specs for RAM.
A word of caution: if it is an older computer you may have a harder time finding the memory and it may cost more.
run a program call Belarc its free, just google search for it, download and run on your computer. this will till you pretty much everything about your machine, also if by chance your running ultra Nero 7 it can till you alot about you machine also. Another site is Driverguide.com on this site you can run a test on you machine which will tell you every thing from harddrive to ram and what drivers eac item in your system takes
You got to check the number of pins that your slot can support(168 pin/184-pin/240 pin).
One way to deduce this is to check the specs of your RAM (mostly the speed) by entering the BIOS (usually pressing F2 when the computer boots up).
The RAM cards that come for 168 pin are ranging from PC66 to PC133 (66MHz to 133MHz)...for 184-pin RAM cards range from PC1600 to PC3200 (100 to 300 MHz - they are known as DDR1 RAM cards)...for 240 pin slots you need DDR2 or DDR3 RAM cards.
DDR2(200-500MHz)..
DDR3(400-800MHz)...
Hope this helps...
