That's not very clear. How could you lost your desktop?

Do you mean you lost your desktop icon in the quick launch menu ? If that's the case, follow the instructions shown on this link

the question is a bit vague, can you be more specific.
did you notice when you saw the monitor was on the floor and the keyboard was on your lap?
something went wrong. on the desktop , on a black space, right clik the mouse and select properties. in the window that opened, select the desktop. check to see if the desktop items are checked. if they are , uncheck , select ok and then apply. now go back and do this again putting the checks back in the items for the desktop. hit ok then apply. them this should get your desktop back. also run a viral scan and an spyware program. chances are, one of those 2 hijacked your settings and such. if you have dsl or cable connection, download and run prevx. this WILL detect any and everything that all other scanner won't.
Right click the desktop - Properties then these little tab called desktop on which you can restore wallpaper if missing

If the icons are missing click the customise desktop button.

If these are not the problem please elaborate more as not quick upstanding specific problem
Possibly you have logged on as a different user. This would cause the desktop to change. Try clicking start>shut down>log off whatever account you are signed into then log back on using your regular user account.
Hello Edda,

I think possibly you have had a browser/desktop hijacker.

I am hoping that you have ad-aware or spybot on your PC, and an antivirus software.

If you have ad-aware or spybot, then remove your temporary internet cookies, and run ad-aware or spybot, and quarantine and remove the offending spys, browser hijackers, etc.

I hope that this will bring back your desktop, if not run your antivirus programme to see if you have a virus, or trojan, and remove if that is the case.

If you don't have any of the free malware removal programmes, these are the links. The last one is for Free AVG antivirus.
