If we're talking desktops, build your own. You'll get a better machine that will actually last you for at least 3 years or so.
I, too, would build my own computer, however, between the two, its kinda iffy. I had a Dell PC for 6 years and it still ran great. Wasnt modern, and wouldnt run any good games, mind you, but it didnt run slow or anything. However, I currently have an HP laptop and by far, they have better tech support and for the price, was a better computer.
IF you have to have a pre-built PC, which I can understand because not everyone can build a custom pc, I would go with an HP.
