Computer Trouble anyone any good with them!!!!?

My computer crashed recently, wiping my files, programmes, songs, downloads the whole lot!! I have just about recovered, but ever since my cd drive will not read a lot of disk. i.e blank ones for burning and copies of games etc. Can I fix this cause never had this trouble before.

the first and most obvious solution would be to replace the current dvd rom
however this dosent explain why your p.c crashed in the first place
most crashes are due to a hardware problem and the most common is to do with the processor and hard drive
how many p.c users clean their c.p.u fan, after a while this gets extremely dirty clogged with dust and grease, and this can make the c.p.u overheat causing system crashes
just by opening up the p.c case and using a "air duster"(compressed air in a aerosol) this can blast all the dirt from the c.p.u fan and heatsink,do this once a month for optimal processor performance
while the case is open blast the rear case fan and any other fans located in the case, including the graphics card
also check the ide cables and other leads in the p.c for workability and wear and tear,if neede replace them
while on the subject of p.c cleaning why not run a disk cleaner through your old dvd rom, this may be all thats the problem with it,use a good lens cleaner with a lens cleaning solution(one to two drops is all thats needed)
keeping your p.c free of dust and dirt can in some cases improve the performace of your applications as the p.c and its components can run at their best efficency
good luck mate!
yes go buy a new cd drive
I would never have one in my house, and never will.
if your computer came with disks, as most do, you could reinstall the drivers, or try using Windows update to get the drivers, install a cd-writing program/software, and, if all else fails, call the company/manufacturer of the computer
If you get the same problem under Linux too, then it could be a hardware problem of a faulty drive (or faulty degrading discs).
Simply buy a a new drive.
Back up your goods now and run a recovery on the puter as it will put you back to day one.
This is likely due to a corrupt driver.

If you are using Window Xp or Vista use the recovery Console.

Microsoft has good, but technical help. It's quite easy and informs you of possible error messages.

JBV^_^
take out your hard disk & put it in some other pc copy the files you need to the other hdd, then format your hdd, install the fresh copy of windows copy back your files, that's what i do
i had that problem for over 100 times.it the easiest way,and you will keep all the stuff you need
hope i helped you out...
Can't see why a crash should affect the drive , if you used the restore disk this should set the drives to the manufacturers settings , unless you installed a newer drive .
Okay.
Could be anything from a hardware failure , virus, registry hive overflow.
also goto "Device Manager"/ View and "Show hidden devices" look for instances of "Starforce" or possibly some other copy protection software installed with certain games.
