Smart computer repairs help me??
Answers:
You won't save any money by building your own. Shop around and you will see many great deals for MUCH less that what you can build one for.
But Tiger Direct has everything you need. Watch for the recommendations.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

This is what you will need:
Case
Power Supply
Mother Board
Processor / heat sink / fan
RAM
Hard Drive
Optical Drive
internal cables for drives
keyboard
mouse
and an operating system - XP, Vista or a free one (linux).
The problem is the mother board, processor and RAM have to be compatible.
There are web pages that will help you.

Look at Barebones Kits.. those usually have case, mobo, psu, cpu and some have hdd.
all you have to do is add video, ram(some come with it), mouse, keyboard, monitor and software.
Type 'building a computer' into google, and you will come up with tons of guides and other info on this subject.

is one of many links that can explain this process, though I wouldn't suggest the video making computer as a starting point for anyone, lol. That is not only expensive, but beyond most people's needs.
Btw, not to start an argument, but I just have to comment on danuitti's comment of:
'You won't save any money by building your own. Shop around and you will see many great deals for MUCH less that what you can build one for.'
That is a load of crap. When purchased correctly, and built how you want it, you will not only save money, but end up with a much better system in the long run, than any name brand system will EVER give you. Anyone that knows anything about repair, maintenance and so forth will tell you the same if they know what they are talking about. The retail pre-built systems by HP, Dell, and all the other manufacturer's are overpriced, configured poorly with poor/cheap parts most of the time, and shoot towards the generic user with a bunch of worthless
software that most people have no use for.
Yes, Tiger Direct is a half-way descent store, and yes they have some good deals, but do yourself a favor and do some heavy comparison shopping, including eBay and Newegg so you can find the best deal. Always consider shipping into the equation as well. www.pricewatch.com is a good site as well that shows the fluctuations of prices, but it doesn't prove much usage for the most part, just gives you a rough idea of what is going on in the wide spectrum price compare.
Best of luck.
TigerDirect is horrible to deal with.
If you have a set budget for this build do not factor in the rebates from TD because you will never get them.
